My Name Is G. Jason Head.

Last Night in Pittsburgh

Tonight is my last night as a resident of Pittsburgh.  Well, at least for the time being. I haven’t been this emotional about something for quite a long time.

I’ve always loved Pittsburgh.  When I was a kid I loved coming to town for Penguins games.  When I was a young punk-rock teenager I loved coming to town for punk rock shows (and even more Penguins games.)  I’ve always just had a place in my heart for this amazing town.  When the chance to move to Pittsburgh made itself available quite a few years back, Val and I jumped on it.  It’s been one of the better decisions we ever made.

We’ve made so many great friends here and have done so many neat things.  Some of my favorite things:

  1. Refresh Pittsburgh
  2. Web Design Day
  3. Stanley Cup Finals
  4. Super Bowl Victories!
  5. The Rise and Fall of the Creative Treehouse
  6. Having the worlds dumbest conversation at PodCamp Pittsburgh that resulted in us creating a term called bacn that ended up in the dictionary.
  7. Fantastic metal shows at Kopecs.
  8. Aiello’s and Mineo’s Pizza
  9. Station Street Food
  10. Franktuary

When I pull out of town tomorrow, I’m going to regret leaving Pittsburgh.  But not nearly as much as I would regret not taking advantage of the fantastic opportunity I have to work with some of the smartest and nicest people in our industry.  I’m ready to do my best and see what we can do.

There is no one else I would go on this adventure with than my wife Val.  If it wasn’t for her, I probably wouldn’t be able to do something like this on my own.  I’m about as introverted as they come – but Val is the best thing that ever happened to me.  If it wasn’t for her just being my best friend, I would probably be at coding shitty html emails is some corner of Buffalo, NY.

We’ll still be in Pittsburgh a lot – so we can still hang out with pals from time to time.  I plan to still come home for plenty of Pens games too.  Web Design Day will still stick around.  We won’t be strangers.

We’ll also be back.  Pittsburgh is home.  We’ll be away for a while but I’m sure it will be home again soon.
